14 Week Update

14 weeks today - definitely in the second trimester, by any reckoning. (I've heard 12, 13, and 14 weeks as the cutoff point.) Unfortunately, my queasiness hasn't gotten the memo - it's still hanging around. I do think it's less frequent than it used to be, but when it hits, it can be pretty bad.

Derek and I went to a store in Thomasville (about half an hour away from us) to look at baby stuff on Saturday. A friend had told me that this store is FAR better with customer service than the stores in Tallahassee. They carry the furniture we'd already seen here in town and liked (Million Dollar Baby's Emily collection - we'd be getting the crib and the dresser/changer combo piece, most likely, in honey oak). They also had tons of other baby paraphernalia, which left us rather overwhelmed. It's kind of insane how many things need to be decided on and bought for this little person.

Bedding, though - I'm leaning toward just making my own. I'd just have to do a bumper and dust ruffle, which shouldn't be too hard or time-consuming (I wouldn't think), and I'll be making the kid a quilt anyway (which I know isn't supposed to go in the crib at first). Sheets we'd buy. I don't know if it's a good idea, since I know I'll be pretty crunched for time once school starts back up, but I do know I'm having a hard time finding things I like, and I think I'd have more luck just choosing my own fabric.

Anyway, that's about it for this week. :)

My two cents on bumpers...they're over-rated...cute...but over-rated. We have one, but it doesn't stay on long. If you remove it when the baby starts pulling up, you'll use it less than a year. I just give you that thought because you could always make the dust ruffle and quilt and if you don't get to the bumper it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Thanks, J. Would you not worry about the baby getting hurt on or stuck in the crib rails without a bumper?

we were told not to use them as baby's could sufficate in them. but we found one at b-r-us that is mesh and breathable. only downside it it only comes in sage and white, but that worked for us. i have a lot of friends that never used them. they complained it made changing the sheets too difficult.
